Tombstone Tuesday: Wm Martin HUMMER

Tombstone of Wm. Martin HUMMER,
west center plot, Block 1, Lot 70,
Summit View Cemetery,
1808 N. Pine St.,
Guthrie, Logan Co, Oklahoma

In the Civil War, Hummer served in Co. C, 81st Indiana Infantry.
A daughter was Sarah E. "Emma" (Hummer), wife of Thomas P. CUPP.
Tom and Emma's children were daughter Dovie and son Robyn.

Tom died in 1898 after the family had homesteaded in
Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory with W.M. Hummer,
who died the following year and was buried next
to son-in-law Tom at Summit View Cemetery.

Emma remarried in 1901 to James Archer,
but by mid-1905 was seeking a divorce.

On the morning of 9th June 1905, Emma and 14-yr-old
Dovie were thrown from their horse-drawn buggy under the
wheels of an electric street car in downtown Guthrie.
By sundown, both had been buried in one
unmarked grave next to Mr. Hummer.

More about Emma, Dovie and Robyn.
